Northern England, 1860s. Katherine (Florence Pugh) is the new mistress on a mid-sized farm. But she’s soon put in her place by her boorish husband (Paul Hilton) and his bullying father (Christopher Fairbank)’and becomes little more than a servant. When both men are called away, she embarks on a reckless, passionate affair with a farmhand (Cosmo Jarvis). And when her father-in-law returns she is determined to prevail, no matter what it takes… A victim of oppression emerges as a full-fledged femme fatale.
