Racial tensions between Arabic immigrants and white police officers fuel this nail-biting thriller, set over the course of just one day, and for the most part concentrated in a low-income housing development where resentment is already running high as the result of a recent violent incident. Officer Hoyer (Simon Sears) is less than thrilled to be sent out on patrol with the overtly racist veteran Andersen (Jacob Lohmann), and sure enough, the latter succeeds in goading a reaction from a disaffected teenager in the very ghetto they were supposed to be steering clear of. One upended patrol car later, the cops and their prisoner are on the run from angry rioters through a warren of basements and stairwells, a situation made even more desperate when Hoyer realizes his partner is capable of just about anything…
Expertly balancing hardboiled action, drama and social commentary, Enforcement is a robust entertainment that should appeal to admirers of the recent French cop thriller Les Miserables, and fans of John Carpenter and Walter Hill.
