My Year with Helen
Impact | Women Direct/Women Deliver
New Zealand’s first female Prime Minister (a job she held for three terms, from 1999 to 2008), and then Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme ( third highest ranking member at the UN) from 2009 to 2016, Helen Clark is an exceptional individual, a politician of remarkable candor and compassion.
Filmmaker Gaylene Preston had the good fortune to be at Clark’s side when the top job at the UN opened up, and suddenly the NZ politician was being talked about as potentially the first woman to become Secretary-General. Preston received unprecedented access to the corridors of power at a time of high stakes drama, and the results are gripping even if the result of the election comes as no surprise.
We are honoured to welcome Helen Clark for a post screening Q&A moderated by CBC's Laura Lynch (Sunday only, $20)
