Making a rest stop in Kansas on their trek to California, adult siblings Becky (Laysla De Oliveira) and Cal (Avery Whitted) hear the panicked cries of a young boy who seems be lost in an immense field of tall grass. Venturing in to rescue him, they find themselves ensnared by a sinister force that sets about disorienting and then separating them. Could it be that they’re not actually in Kansas anymore? Cut off from the world and unable to escape the field’s tightening grip, they soon discover that the only thing worse than getting lost is being found…
Adapting Stephen King and Joe Hill’s novella, writer-director Vincenzo Natali draws on his experience helming bare bones cult classic Cube to infuse the mundane sight of waving grass with dread-inducing menace. While honouring King and Hill’s original text, he also draws heavily on the H.P. Lovecraft quote, "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown." Delivering his most accomplished work since Splice, Natali also confirms that we’re living in the golden age of King adaptations.
