A Disappearance

ALT | International Shorts

Over the course of one night, a fallen TV-celebrity psychic attempts to intervene in a local tragedy in order to claw back her fame. This delightfully well done little piece of theatre dishes up a double identity crisis that plays out in three acts, highlighted by the central one-take stage performance. Set in the world of English small-town psychic fayres, this is a world seemingly from another time made believable and captivating by terrific performances, script, and production design. As star Sophie Thompson (Jericho, Four Weddings and a Funeral) describes it, "the film explores the lengths a person can go in order to heal a damaged ego." Well put.
