A teen boy with an autism-like disorder has a difficult life; socially bullied and ridiculed, he often pushes his guardian to the limits when his frustrations boil over. Tender is an unsettling portrait of a troubled life that is both disturbing and illuminating, right from the opening scene with a first-person point-of-view of a bullying attack. Angered by the incident, the boy seeks retribution. The hand-held camera work and creepy soundtrack help create the tense undertones that permeate the whole film. This is a small view into how difficult life must be for those who are mentally challenged, especially in the vicious teen years.
