A Picnic Table, at Dusk
Youth | International Shorts
Distressed and unable to find meaning in life, a grieving teen girl receives help from a stranger through a unique communication method. This wonderfully nuanced "unusual connection" story uses a minimalist approach to give it structure and a formal quality. Featuring a fabulous performance by Kelowna’s Taylor Hickson (Deadpool, Syfy’s Deadly Class), this is essentially a silent film; all we know is conveyed through subtle expressions, posture, movements and the brief but poignant exchanges, making for a quiet, calm film whose apparent simplicity belies its powerful, compassionate message.
