Akeda (The Binding)

ALT | International Shorts

An orphan boy has his humanity tested when a film director encourages him to give a violent performance that will blend fiction with reality. Akeda is a compelling character drama about a child manipulated into a position where his actions could have grave consequences, though it’s unclear whether he understands or fully comprehends what he’s part of. In a way, it’s not only the character but also the intense situation that blurs the fiction/reality lines playing out entirely from the boy’s point of view. The film touches on many issues, not the least of which is how the re-creation of a horrible event can itself become its own sadistic event, twisted into a piece of propaganda.
