VIFF Awards
Beginning in 1988 when the VIFF gave out its first "Most
Popular Film" prize to Some Girls, the Festival has offered
a number of awards, both adjudicated and voted on by you, the
audience, to deserving films. These awards are:
• The AGF People's Choice Award For
Most Popular International Film
• The Federal Express Award
For Most Popular Canadian Film
• The Citytv Western Canada
Feature Film Award
The Keystone Award
(Best Young Western Canadian Director of a Short Film)
The winner of the Keystone award for Best Young Western Canadian
Director of a Short film, including the $5,000 prize, is
JENNIFER CALVERT for RIVERBURN
(British Columbia). "For its surehanded treatment of the
familiar themes of adolescent alienation and sexual awakening".
Special mention is given for the excellence
of the two animated entries, Steven K.L. Olson's JUDAS'
PANE, and Jason White's OF BURNING
HILLS.
