Media Accreditation

Media Accreditation
The Vancouver International Film Festival offers complimentary accreditation to journalists who cover film on a regular basis for established media. Certain media selected by the media office will receive a simplified Media Pass Request form by email. All other media, including those who have not forwarded their 2003 VIFF coverage and media who are new to VIFF, must submit the 2004 Media Pass Request via mail or courier by September 6, accompanied by ALL the information requested in the Media Accreditation Checklist below. Incomplete requests will not be considered. Your accreditation status will be advised by September 10.

Media Pass Request Form
Adobe Acrobat Reader© is required to download this form; it is available free at www.adobe.com. Or call 604-646-4770 to receive the form by fax.

Media Accreditation Checklist
• Apply by September 6, 2004.
• Attach the Media Pass Request.
• Attach a letter on company letterhead from your assigning editor(s) confirming your assignment and outlining the company’s intention to publish or air your reports.
• Provide sample clips (or tapes, links, scripts, summaries, etc.) of your VIFF coverage, with bylines and dates, for the most recent year you were accredited. Note: Media who submitted VIFF 2003 coverage as requested post-festival do not have to resubmit. If you are new to VIFF, provide three recent film or arts stories published or produced by you during the past year. These must show the media organization, your byline and date.

Media Access

The accredited journalist receives a media pass valid for all media and festival screenings EXCEPT the three gala screenings and parties. Passes are not transferable. Selected media will receive tickets and invitations to the galas (details below).

Gala Media Invitations

Attendance at the three VIFF galas (film screenings and after-parties) is by invitation only. The Opening Gala is September 23, Anniversary Gala is October 2 and Closing Gala is October 8. Regrettably, because of space limitations, we are not able to invite all accredited media to the galas. Gala invitations are prioritized according to the media organization’s reach and the amount of coverage the journalist and organization typically give VIFF. Media gala invitations are issued at the discretion of the VIFF media office and the gala committee.

Gala Working Media Pass

A limited number of Gala Working Media Passes valid for one or more of the galas (see dates above) are available to assigned television crews, photographers, etc. This pass allows the crew to cover celebrity and VIP arrivals at the gala theatre, and to cover the respective after-parties. Please note this working pass does not admit the holder to view any films, gala or otherwise. Assigning editors or producers should email media@viff.org with GALA in the subject line to request a separate Gala Working Media Pass.
