"Press ENTER" "How do you spell ‘enter’?" The new comedy from the director of Iron Ladies parodies both Mission Impossible and Charlie’s Angels but stays just close enough to Thai social realities to give its comedy an edge. Secret policeman Prasert, having lost a skilled team of operatives disguised as gardeners and cocktail waitresses, recruits two raucous, uneducated country women, Waew and Jim, to work undercover. They are to pose as maids in the swanky home of frozen-food magnate Sophon (he has a very proper English wife, Emma), to bug his phones and collect evidence of the bribes he pays to corrupt politicians to advance his business plans. Many things go wrong, but the covert op comes to fruition during a trip to Chieng Mai.

Full of visual snap, crackle and pop and paced like a runaway train, M.A.I.D has fun with everything from linguistic misunderstandings to the censorship of images of smokers on TV. It is, of course, relentlessly vulgar and much of the humour is correspondingly low. You could think of it as the Boudu Saved from Drowning of its day: it lays into the bourgeois world (middle-class villas, high-society parties, politicians, casinos, fashion shoots) with the gusto and cynicism of the untamed sub-proletarian rebel, and loves watching the face of respectability get a bloody nose. Bonus for Iron Ladies fans: April, May and June put in a guest appearance. Bonus for everyone planning to visit Thailand: the subtitles offer a crash course in Thai sexual slang.
