An elusive female body part - the vulva - is explored in director Beck Peacock’s new documentary. Photographer and central subject Nick Karras was inspired to illuminate this particular body part upon the realization that the women in his life do not perceive their own bodies with the same respect and awe that he does. Interviews with the legendary Betty Dodson, Linda Savage, and many of Karras’ project participants thoroughly explore the aesthetics and perception of the vulva. As enlightening as it is provocative, Petals sensitively explores issues of body image and self-esteem, empowering both its subjects and viewers to see the female body from a (quite literally) new angle.
