Esther Rots' mesmerizing debut features a stunning acting turn from Rifka Lodeizen as Marieke, a woman--her life turned upside down by an act of supreme violence--who retreats to a dilapidated farmhouse in the Dutch countryside to regroup.

After getting dumped by her boyfriend, Marieke is brutally raped and left to drown in a river. She survives, but is--obviously--deeply wounded physically and psychologically and chooses to isolate herself. What follows is a brave, intimate and thoroughly artful exploration of one woman's attempts to cope with what fate has dealt her. Lodeizen is onscreen in virtually every shot as she manages to convey the subtle--and occasionally not-so-subtle--emotions Marieke feels at any given moment. Rots' camera follows her closely--it could be said to almost stalk her--as tension builds and revelations are made...
