If you can imagine After Hours directed by Wong Kar-Wai, you'll have some notion of the mazy nocturnal pleasures of this stylish feature debut from writer-director-cinematographer Chung Mong-Hong. Chen Mo (Chen Chang, from Happy Together, Red Cliff and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) has a dinner date with his wife - but first he stops to pick up a cake for the meal. That's his first mistake. He's boxed in by a double-parked car, and as he tries to track down the driver in the nearby apartment block, he's propelled from one misadventure to another, encountering a series of strangers each with his or her own hard luck story going on. Dipping into thriller, black comedy and love story, but always on its own idiosyncratic terms, Parking is a beguiling oddity that adds up to something unexpectedly heartfelt.

Chang Chen is one of the most well-known Chinese movie stars today. He was born in Taipei, Taiwan 1976 and at the age of 14, he was offered his first role by world renowned director Edward Yang in A Brighter Summer Day, which won the Special Jury Prize in the 1991 Tokyo International Film Festival and Best Film in the 28th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards. Chang was also nominated for the Best Actor Award. One of Chang Chen’s earliest roles was in Happy Together directed by Wong Kar-wai, co-starring with Leslie Cheung and Tony Leung. It earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the 17th Hong Kong Film Academy Awards in 1998. Chang played the leading role in director Ang Lee’s award-winning Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and won critical acclaim for his performance in Wong Kar Wai's EROS, opposite Gong Li. His performance as Wu Ching Yuan in Tian Zhuangzhuang's GO MASTER won the Best Actor Award at the Osaka Film Festival.

"The beauty of this well-crafted flight of dark-tinted fancy is how comfortable it makes us feel on the edge. A strange little movie with a lot of style - and a solid heart." - Katherine Monk, CanWest

"An attractive oddity... visually dazzling." - John Griffin, The Gazette

"A special movie with a strong, strange personality of its own. It's great." - Mark Slutsky, The Montreal Mirror
