The world's foremost documentarian, Fred Wiseman turns his camera on the Paris Opera Ballet as they work on no less than seven productions, ranging from Rudolph Nureyev's The Nutcracker to Orpheus by Pina Bausch. Both a banquet for dance lovers and a typically astute examination of the inner workings of this institution, La Danse insists on the dedication and discipline required in the artistic process, as well as the transcendent beauty it produces.
“Heart stirring beauty and grace… La Danse takes you inside the essence of dance… If you don't already swoon over this art form, this film will make you wonder what took you so long.” - Kenneth Turan , LA Times
