The 400 Blows is among the few films that leave me staring spellbound at the screen after they’re over. The autobiographical first feature of writer/director François Truffaut, founder of the French New Wave, stars Jean-Pierre Léaud as lifelong alter ego Antoine Doinel in the riveting performance that launched both exceptional careers. Set in a dingy, Dickensian Paris of the late 1950s, the Balzac-worshipping Antoine is disliked by both parents, suffers at school, and is on his way to becoming a delinquent—or an artist. Winner of Best Director prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1959, The 400 Blows continues to be one of the finest coming-of-age films ever made.

Once a month, Melanie Friesen invites a distinguished guest to present his/her favourite film. After the screening, audiences and guests have the opportunity to discuss the film over drinks and snacks in our spacious lounge. BUY TICKETS
