CREATIVITY AND BUSINESS SAVVY FUSE AT THIS YEAR'S FORUM

 

Vancouver, B.C. — VIFF's 22 nd Annual Film and Television Forum announces an unprecedented line-up of star-studded, multiple award-winning speakers. From Children Of Men and Little Miss Sunshine to CSI , The Office , Sicko and An Inconvenient Truth , the films and TV shows that Forum guests have worked on are some of the most celebrated, successful and critically acclaimed of this millennium. From Oscars and Golden Globes to Emmy Awards and Palmes D'Or, Forum speakers' impressive credentials are certain to ramp up this year's seminars, workshops and master classes to exhilarating new heights.

Among the dazzling line up of industry elite, this year's Film and Television Forum will feature Academy Award nominated screenwriter David Arata ( Children of Men , Spy Game , Brokedown Palace ) as he takes us through the craftsmanship and cunning required to elevate a script from promising first draft to masterful shooting script in A Writer's Journey to the Final Draft . Arata is currently adapting a William Gibson novel.

Feature Film day also features producer, Ron Yerxa (Cold Mountain, Little Children ), Motion Picture Producer of the Year and Academy Award winner for Little Miss Sunshine and Election as he elaborates on the science and alchemy required to propel those rare indie gems to box office success in The Art of Creative Producing. Together with Mary Jane Skalski , the producer of Sundance Jury Prize winning The Station Agent , they explore their unique approaches to identifying the ideal project, developing it, and packaging it with the optimal team and talent to mitigate risk and build a winner.

The parade of award-winning speakers continues on TV Day with two-time Emmy-winner Paul Lieberstein , Head Writer for the highly acclaimed series The Office . In A Laugh A Minute: TV Comedy Writing , he shares the trade secrets from years gleaned delivering laughs for the Drew Carey Show, King of the Hill and The Bernie Mac Show .

Capping off this year's TV Day is two-time Emmy-nominated Richard Lewis , Director and Executive Producer of CSI: Crime Scene Investigations in a TV Directing Master Class . This powerful hands-on seminar will shed light on the inside secrets required to consistently deliver your directing vision to the screen.

This year's Film and Television Forum also hosts one of the most exciting and compelling shapers of modern television. Britain's “hottest TV producer” and Trouble-shooter, Robert Thirkell is helping create a new genre of informational TV that's sweeping the landscape with shows like Jamie's School Dinners and The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off . One of the most riveting speakers today, he will share 8 key rules on how to propel a great TV concept into a global phenomenon in CONFLICT: 8 Key Rules of Factual Television.
