The 22nd Annual VIFF Film and Television Forum
Bringing The World's Finest To Vancouver THE FORUM BOASTS MULTIPLE AWARD-WINNING INTERNATIONAL SPEAKERS Vancouver, B.C. — The VIFF’s 22nd Annual Film and Television Forum announces their most impressive showcase to date. From the Oscars to the Golden Globes, from the Emmy’s to Grand Jury Prizes, and from Audience Awards at Sundance and Cannes, the Forum boasts the best of filmmakers from around the world. Four full days of seminars, workshops and master classes for film, television and interactive professionals are scheduled to take place at the Vancouver International Film Centre and Vancity Theatre from September 26 – 29 inclusive. For the first time, each day of The Forum will focus on a particular industry sector:
According to Forum Creative Director Helen du Toit, “Our goal is to bring together the very best in the business for a single day. This streamlined programming will allow busy industry professionals to benefit from the expertise of world-class speakers and seminars over four highly focused days”. Kicking off this year’s Doc Day is Viral Marketing and Digital Distribution, an in-depth look at one of the emerging forces in the new media frontier.. Capitalizing on the undeniable force of the internet and social networking, DIY (do-it-yourself) marketing and distribution is having a profound impact on the business, and this session features two of the leading figures in that paradigm shift. Four-Eyed Monster co-director and producer Arin Crumley was recently touted as “one of the 20 people to watch” by the Wall Street Journal, while former dot.com executive and Brave New World co-founder Jim Gilliam has developed an alternate financing model responsible for numerous documentaries including Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism, Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price and Iraq for Sale. This intensive first day will also feature two of the documentary world’s most recognized editors in the in-depth Documentary Editing Workshop. From the Academy Award-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth to Michael Moore’s internationally acclaimed Sicko, Dan Swietlik has helped shape some of the most successful documentaries of our age. Likewise, as the editor of 2005 Academy Award nominated Murderball and Michael Apted’s recent 21 Up America, Geoffrey Richman is one of the most notable editors in the documentary field. This richly instructive workshop will provide countless insights on how to propel a documentary to the next level of excellence.
The 22nd Annual Film and Television Forum takes place in the Rogers Industry Centre at the Vancouver International Film Centre and Vancity Theatre, 1181 Seymour Street, September 26-28 with New Filmmakers’ Day on September 29th.
