Leigh Badgley
A Vancouver-based producer whose films cover the globe, Leigh Badgley has a special flair for cultural and inspiring documentaries. Her recent “heart” project, Greenpeace: Making a Stand (Director/Producer) premiered at the World Peace Forum in 2006 and aired on Global Television’s Global Currents. Greenpeace: Making a Stand won a Leo Award for Best Documentary in its category in 2007 and the Special Jury Award at the Explorers Club Film Festival in New York in 2008. It is currently on tour with The Explorers Club.
Her one-hour performing arts piece for CBC and A&E, True Prince: Vladimir Malakhov won a slew of prestigious awards including best arts documentary at the Hot Docs Festival 1997, and has sold around the world. She also co-produced the lively How the Fiddle Flows , a one-hour special on Métis music and dance with the National Film Board (NFB).
Recent producing credits include Shimmy, a 26-episode series on belly dance for Access, CLT & Discovery Health, and a one hour controversial documentary called The Dolphin Dealer, broadcast on CBC in October 2008.
Leigh also produces drama. The half-hour comedy Does That Make Me a Bad Person? won awards at the New York Expo of Short Film and Video, the Salerno International Film Festival and Worldfest Flagstaff. Leigh is currently co-writing a feature film.
She recently served on the board of the Documentary Organization of Canada and is a member of Women in Film and Video, and Istituto Italiano di Cultura.
Fluent in French, Spanish and Italian, Leigh loves being a filmmaker and her passion for music and art bring a sense of wonder and magic to her work. |
