Films for Youth

Film has an incredible power to engage and enlighten audiences of all ages. As youth today are exposed to a plethora of media and entertainment options, many backed by big-budget corporate interests, and it is important to offer our youth another perspective. Opening young eyes to the world beyond Hollywood, independent cinema presents stories and cultures from around the globe.

VIFF has several programs aimed at youth and families. These programs are outlined in the High School program [mid-week matinees for school groups] and Films for Youth [regular screenings] with discounts for student groups. Student groups must be booked at least 48 hours in advance by calling 604-685-0260 and asking for Lia or Smita.

Consumer Protection BC

Not all of our films are accessible to youth. As a non-profit film society, the majority of our films are not classified and thus, by law, audiences must be a “member” of our society and be 18 years of age and over. However, films that are suitable for a younger audience are classified (rated) by Consumer Protection BC to allow persons under 18 to attend (not membership required).
