One Of The Largest Film Festivals in North America
One of North America’s largest film festivals, the Vancouver International Film Festival, September 24 - October 9, 2015 will once again welcome some of the world's finest films to one of the most beautiful cities on the planet.
Building on an impressive 2014 edition in which 349 films drew more than 144,000 attendees, VIFF delivers the world’s most spectacular cinema to nine Vancouver screens. Entering its 34th year, VIFF has seen impressive growth year over year, cementing its place as one of the top international film festivals in North America.
Weekly announcements of confirmed titles commence in early August, with films selected for VIFF presented in one of the festival’s trademark series. Galas & Special Presentations screen in the festival’s grandest venues while Canadian Images represents one of the largest showcases of new Canadian cinema on the planet. Cinema of Our Time features narrative films from around the globe directed by today’s masters and tomorrow’s visionaries. Dragons & Tigers: The Cinemas of East Asia is an adventurous collection of bold new East Asian cinema and Spotlight on France highlights the rich cinematic culture that continues to flourish in that country. Nonfiction Features is a selection of enthralling documentary films that invite us to view the world in different lights, while Arts & Letters is a cinematic celebration of visual and performing arts. Short film programmes celebrate artists who push short-form storytelling to its limits and, as the hour grows late, Altered States lets the odd ones – be they horror, sci-fi or something completely unclassifiable – out to play.
In 2015, VIFF also features unique thematic showcases such as Style in Film, a selection of films that celebrate fashion, style, aesthetics and iconoclasm and are complemented with exclusive panels and post-screening events. VIFF Impact recognizes documentary films that double as powerful agents of change, while the BC Spotlight initiative and accompanying #mustseeBC campaign continues to drive audiences to British Columbia productions in record numbers.
