MONEY & NATURE
In the wake of the worldwide financial crisis, a particularly fascinating group of films have emerged that help illuminate this vastly complex and unpredictable arena.
In our Follow the Money series, various sectors of the economy (and aspects of human nature) are examined in scarifying and perversely entertaining detail.
Inextricably linked to the Follow the Money series is this year's environmental section, The Way of Nature. In fact several of these films could just as easily have appeared in either series because our economy and our environment stand face-to-face as at no other time in human history. The films offer both shocking news on the accelerated mess we're making in some of the most beautiful parts of this globalized planet, and possible redemption in the rediscovery of the ways of nature in others.
In the spirit of the democratization of curatorial opinion, VIFF is opening additional territory for the choice of the people. It's very interesting for us as programmers to see which films become festival favourites. We pay particular attention to other audience's choices trusting that you'll find it interesting too. This series brings to Vancouver award winners from several of the festivals that have offered popularity prizes this past season. What will be Top of the Pops here?
