Beginning in 1988 when the VIFF gave out its first "Most Popular Film" prize to Some Girls, the Festival has offered a number of awards, both adjudicated and voted on by you, the audience, to deserving films. These awards are:

Citytv Western Canada Feature Film Award ($12,000)

For the seventh year running, Citytv is generously sponsoring an award for Western Canadian filmmakers. Last year, Carl Bessai and Normal won the $12,000 Citytv Western Canada Feature Film Award. |
This year, the jury-selected prizes was again be announced at the awards presentation at the Closing Gala. The feature films in this year's competition were:
The jury for the Canadian Images program awarded the Citytv Western Canada Feature Film Award and its $12,000 cash prize to director Kari Skogland of B.C. for FIFTY DEAD MEN WALKING. The jury included actor and singer-songwriter Andrea Menard, writer/composer/performer Will Ryan and film producer Elizabeth Yake. Jury member Will Ryan and Citytv’s entertainment reporter for Breakfast Television, Thor Diakow, presented the award.
